Libya – no resolution anytime soon

Libya which has been torn by violence and political instability since Gaddafi was deposed and killed in 2011 is winding up for yet more trouble with foreign troops and peacekeepers exiting because of the danger. There are dozens of militias operating in the country and this present confrontation was precipitated by rebel forces under Egypt and UAE-backed Gen Khalifa Haftar who have been advancing from the east with the aim of taking the capital, Tripoli. The UN-backed prime minister has accused him of attempting a coup. A unity government has been in place since 2015 but has struggled to assert national control.

Libyan gained independence on 24 December 1951 at midnight presumably. It’s a highly Cardinal chart with a Capricorn Sun, Jupiter in Aries, Uranus in Cancer and  four planets in Libra. When the long term dictator Gaddafi was killed in late 2011 tr Pluto was square the Jupiter and tr Uranus was square the Sun. That started a long and troubled phase of the tr Uranus square tr Pluto bouncing off Saturn, Mars and Neptune which is still ongoing with tr Pluto trailing behind, still square the Neptune for confusion and devastation this year until this December. Tr Neptune is also in a directionless, swampy square to the Libya midheaven till January 2020 which doesn’t look like a resolution anytime soon. And the Solar Arc Neptune is conjunct the Sun for an undermining late 2020/21; followed by an emotionally intense and blocked tr Pluto square the Moon in 2023/24, with muddle and mayhem as it moves across various midpoints before then.

General Haftar, 7 November 1943, is a stubbornly determined Sun Mercury in Scorpio square Pluto; with a hard-edged Mars Saturn in Gemini. He’s got some real highs and some real downers ahead. On the upside his Solar Arc Uranus is conjunct his Jupiter for a lucky break around this year; with a confident Solar Arc Jupiter conjunct Mercury in 2020 and conjunct his Sun in 2022. But he’s also got tr Neptune squaring his Mars in 2021 for a sense of panicky failure and square his Saturn in 2023 for teeth-gritting worries.

In the aftermath of Gaddafi’s death and the descent of Libya into chaos, there was heavy criticism of David Cameron and Nicholas Sarkozy for the failure to develop a coherent strategy to fill the gap left by Gaddafi’s departure.

  1. If BLiar and his crew had been made properly accountable in good time for Iraq there’s a better than even chance Libya, ( with the Isis flag flying in Tripoli, waves of desperate migrants to Europe and death and mayhem by the bucketloads) would not have happened.
Don’t forget Cameron was only prevented from launching bombing raids on Syria, and God knows what else to follow, because parliament voted it down. He was actually peeved, the sleazy Etonian rent boy that he is…And many Tories are agitating to give such power to yet another inbred narcissist in the form of Boris Johnson. As you say, ycnmiu….

  2. It’s really rather shocking that having opened up a pandora’s box of horrors with the mission in Iraq, the UK, under Cameron decided to do exactly the same in Libya. IIRC it was at the hand of the great and glorious William Hague who declared in 2012 that Libya had been ‘a tremendous success story’ without even a trace of sarcasm. He has been rewarded for his sterling efforts with a life peerage. You couldn’t make it up.

  3. Hear hear….the British establishment is untouchable, largely I guess because it essentially polices itself…a gilded few connected by family, schooling, marriage, money, privilege and power gets away with the worst crimes imaginable. Paedophilia, mass murder, Industrial levels of propaganda and naked incompetence, corruption, treason, and the rest, and the culprits end up writing their self serving memoirs in designer sheds or jerking off sundry despots for money…BLiar ended up as a “peace envoy” ….satire is dead…I keep hoping Pluto in Capricorn will ultra deep clean some of this stuff, but I fear I hope in vain…

  4. Westminster has a lot to answer for when it comes to the absolute misery and interminable chaos that has been, continues to be, inflicted on a number of Asian countries (and many other parts of the World) with the consequence of millions of people fleeing from the disaster zones, which in turn has led to ”barriers” being erected between countries and stoked up neo-Nazi feelings right across Europe. It’s also interesting to note that Tony Blair, grim reaper of Iraq and father of Daesh, gave evidence to the UK CSFA Committee on Cameron’s actions. You couldn’t make it up.

David Cameron stepped down as Prime Minister due to the Brexit result, it’s said, however that seemed to co-incide, to the day, with the release of the damning report of the rulings that he made with regard to Gaddafi and Libya. One suspects decisions made more in line with an ”interest” in Libya’s oil / natural resources than any concern about the threat to civilians at all and of course all brushed under the Westminster carpet once again, following the investigation, such as David Cameron’s determination to bomb Libya in 2011.

The report from the Westminster Commons Select Foreign Affairs Committee … ”Concludes that decisions were not based on accurate intelligence. In particular, the Government failed to identify that the threat to civilians was overstated and that the rebels included a significant Islamist element. …

A policy which had intended to protect civilians drifted towards regime change and was not underpinned by strategy to support and shape post-Gaddafi Libya. The consequence was political and economic collapse, inter-militia and inter-tribal welfare, humanitarian and migrant crises, widespread human rights violations and the growth of ISIL in North Africa.”…

And of course Theresa May was Home Secretary at that time and complicit with UK security services in facilitating the travel of Libyan jihadists, living in England, into Libya to assassinate Gaddafi. Their ”success” in getting rid of him has resulted in the ”violence and political instability” in the country and the grave threat of course to the security of the British public. Salman Abedi’s, the Manchester bomber, father was one such Libyan ”exile” fighter, living in Manchester, who was funnelled into Libya by MI6 and in fact took his bomber son along with him on occasion. Not a great deal of information to be found about that in the UK MSM news either.

    ……………………

..”The overthrow of Gaddafi, who controlled Africa’s largest oil reserves, had been long been planned in Washington and London. According to French intelligence, the LIFG made several assassination attempts on Gaddafi in the 1990s – bank-rolled by British intelligence. In March 2011, France, Britain and the US seized the opportunity of a “humanitarian intervention” and attacked Libya. They were joined by Nato under cover of a UN resolution to “protect civilians”…

”Just as Blair brought home to Britain the violence of his and George W Bush’s blood-soaked “shit show”, so David Cameron, supported by Theresa May, compounded his crime in Libya and its horrific aftermath, including those killed and maimed in Manchester Arena on 22 May.”..
